ROCK ASSOCIATIONS

American Federation of Mineralogical Societies
Founded in 1947, the AFMS is a non-profit educational federation of seven similar regional organizations of Gem, Mineral and Lapidary societies.

Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies
The Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies, Inc. is a member of the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. It was founded in 1938, and one of the original four founders of the AFMS in 1947. It encompasses the Northwest region of the United States, including Alaska and consists of about 70 member clubs with over 4400 total members.

PALEONTOLOGY

North America Research Group (NARG) - Information on fossil records for Oregon and Washington.
Oregon Paleo Project -Oregon First Solutions Project, based out of Fossil, OR to promote the enhancement, preservation, development and interpretation of regions fossil and geologic resources.
Woodburn Paleoarchaeological Project - Legion Park and the Stafek Site are two of the oldest stratified paleoarchaeological sites yet discovered in the Pacific Northwest. Within sediments >10,000 years in age occurs the evidence for man in the the form of stone and bone tools, and polished bone. A huge predator bird has also been identified here. Present, as well, are over 20 species of extinct ice age mammals, including mammoth, mastodon, giant bison, and ground sloth.
